To achieve this, we build year-round indoor and outdoor growing spaces throughout Calgary and teach people to grow and teach others. These growing spaces become important places to share knowledge and enrich life around us for years to come

Board Treasurer

Hands-On Growing is currently looking to fill the role of Board Treasurer. This is a volunteer position on the Board of Directors. The Treasurer will oversee and provide guidance on the finances of the not-for-profit organization. You will help lead and influence a growing non-profit organization and play a key role in business development and strategic planning. Our team brings a wealth of experience in gardening, vermiculture and community outreach to facilitate year-round, productive, cost-effective and community-driven gardens. With your support, we can help make Calgary’s neighborhoods flourish.

Description

The Board Member's responsibilities include both governance and operational management oversight. We are looking for individuals with prior leadership experience, a solid community network, and strong professional skills. 

Responsibilities include:

  • A strong understanding and commitment to the organization's vision, mission, programs, policies, and needs.

  • Understands the organization's financial affairs and ensures fiduciary responsibilities are met.

  • Regularly attends board and committee meetings and participating actively and conscientiously.

  • Prepares for meetings by reviewing the agenda and supporting documentation.

  • Drafts and presents monthly financial statements for review by the board of directors. 

  • Assists in drafting the annual budget.

  • Ensures that government tax filings and remittances are submitted on a timely basis.

  • Contributes to the development of policies and strategic plans.

  • Ensures the organization complies with legal, health and safety requirements.

  • Maintains confidentiality on all internal society affairs.

Qualifications

  • Previous board experience as a treasurer would be considered an asset, but not required.

  • Strong understanding of Non-Profit Financial statements and Non-Profit legal responsibilities.

  • Awareness of CRA policies/regulatory requirements concerning financial compliance.

  • Sufficient time availability for board duties with monthly meetings. 

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Strong organizational skills
